Hagoth - Builder Of Ships
Seafaring fascinated people for millennia. So it is no wonder that over the years accumulated a lot of myths about the sea and seafaring. Hagoth is one of them. This mythological figure is said to have been a major ship builder. Anyone who would like more detailed information, can find in the English Wikipedia .
At Mayday Games now the board game edition of this myth has been released. Myke Drysdale moved off the two to four players in the role of Hagoth and allows them to design and build ships, then to travel from its home port "Bountiful" in the remote North Ward to compete.
In the small box can be found next to the board, the ship's figures and points display, a four-sided dice and wooden tokens, and the 100 game cards, which form the core of the game. After the cards are mixed, provided each player's victory point marker on the "0" and has taken care of five cards in hand, ready to go already.
The goal of the game is to be the first to reach the end of the scoring track on the board. Points are awarded for the construction of vessels and reaching the other shore. It is possible to build five different-sized vessels, which, depending on size obviously bring more victory points. However, these must also take a longer route, depending on size, which bring a different number of points.
In his train the players the opportunity to conduct an election campaign, or up to two cards to play. After the train the players move back to five cards in hand. The cards offer the following options:
Blueprint:
Most of the maps shows parts of blueprints for ships. These can be arbitrarily applied to the two construction sites of a player / folded. However, once launched ships may not be canceled. Finished blueprints that have already been built in part, may also not be changed.
Wood cases:
When logging the player throws the four-sided dice and takes the appropriate amount of timber.
Construction:
The player equipped with blueprints completed timber. If a ship is completely built, the building site cleared and made one of two small wooden boats of the players on the relevant ship route of the board and the player gets the points shown there.
Sailing:
The player may move one of its ships to a field along the route forward. He reached the goal he gets the points shown and gets back his ship.
Trouble Tickets
With these cards the players can be disturbed in their plans. It is possible blueprint parts or timber to remove a ship on a route to withdraw or to suspend a player completely.
When his choice of action can make a player either wood, build a part of a blueprint or a ship to move a field forward.
The game is catchy and easy explanation, so that it is not so bad that the game is completely in English. The only trouble for the Cards English skills are required. However, these maps also identify by their color. The topic and the illustration to go another way and knows how to please. The mechanisms are simple, yet challenging.
However, there is a considerable element of luck, so it is only partially possible actions (What ship I build?, ...) To plan several moves ahead. In addition, it also happens frequently that you have to wait a while on the right card. But those who seek a slightly different simple family game that should be open again and make the trip to North Ward.
