Ancient Rome had the Res Publica, the plebeians, the senate, corruption and catastrophes. In Ystaris "Sylla" by author Dominique Ehrhard, we see these items again and take part in the life in Roman society. Each player tries to gain power and influence in the Roman Empire and thus the game.

Sylla's primary goal is to earn prestige points. These are typically available only by achieving certain milestones, namely the edifying of major infrastructure building, the development of public opinion with regard to citizenship, health and leisure, as well as the prevention of epidemics, famines and other crises.
